Villanova Wildcats: Ball Screen, Roll and Replace Basketball Play (11-12)

If you just set a ball screen in the half court without any action after it you are limiting your possible quality shot opportunities. The reason why you want to have an action after the ball screen is because it takes advantage of the defense already being out of position. They are still trying to recover and communicate on the ball screen action, and that leaves them vulnerable.

The point of this ball screen basketball play is to get the defense to over help on the ball screen which will leave the replace man open for a shot. Learn how the defense is guarding certain actions and use their own defensive strategy to exploit them. Make sure that you have the right basketball plays in your playbook to give your team the best chance for success.

Similar Plays: Wake Forrest: Pin Down – Flare Screen – Ball Screen Basketball Play (11-12), Villanova Wildcats: Transition Ball Screen Basketball Play (11-12), Villanova Wildcats: Single Screen – Ball Screen Basketball Play (11-12)

Play Goal: Make the defense over help on the ball screen and throw the ball back to the replace man for a shot or a pass inside to the roll man.

Play Tips: Set a good ball screen and be aggressive off of the ball screen. The man rolling needs to try and get as deep of a position as he can, if he doesn’t get the ball right away he needs to watch for a 3-second call. Replace man needs to sprint to the top of the key to receive the ball.
